A SMILE Makes Me Happy (Week 9 – 2015)

While music can invoke happy feelings, this week’s SMILE is all about songs dedicated to happiness. Enjoy!

Pharrell Williams‘ Happy (lyrics) is the quintessential song about being happy for the current generation. Get up and dance around to your heart’s content!

Another happy song that defined a generation is Bobby McFerrin‘s Don’t Worry, Be Happy (lyrics). What makes it bittersweet these days is the appearance of Robin Williams in the music video. The message, however, is eternal.

One more step back in time and you get Gene Kelly‘s Singin’ In The Rain (lyrics), which was the featured song in the movie by the same name. This one will especially make pluviophiles happy!

Want a hilariously happy song from the other side of the world? Take a look at Green Leaves‘ Yatta (lyrics – scroll down for English)(Japanese). The group may be fictional, but their song has since become a web culture in-joke – over a decade before Psy’s Gangnam Style would achieve the same feat. Warning: NSFW. (I apologize for the low quality video, but it’s the best I could find.)

The last happy song for this week is from Japan’s neighbor, Korea. It’s Red Velvet‘s Happiness (lyrics)(Korean). This song is all about seeking and finding happiness. Find your own!

Know any other songs about happiness and/or being happy? Let me know in a comment, and be sure to include any SMILE suggestions you might have! ^^
