In our ever ‘expanding’ world, people are always looking for the ‘next best thing’ to look ‘slimmer.’ Well, sorry everyone, but corsets aren’t it. At least, not in the way you’re thinking. They can make you look slimmer for a short time, yes, but all they do is redistribute the weight. They don’t make you eat less or somehow healthier simply because your waist is a tad smaller. Something else people need to be aware of is the difference between wearing a corset for a momentary slimmer figure and tightlacing. Tightlacing is the practice of wearing a tightly-laced corset to achieve extreme modifications to the figure… in other words: a 20 inch waist or smaller. <\/p>\n

These slim waists are what people look at and go ‘oh, I should wear a corset…’. No. Most tightlacers achieve their hourglass waists by wearing their custom fitted corsets (ie. be prepared to spend the money!) for 12-23 hours a day for years, usually only taking them off to bathe. Not to mention that, if done incorrectly (and sometimes correctly), tightlacing can be more damaging to your health than just a few extra pounds. Sure, that depends on who you talk to, but it has been linked to damage to the heart, the lungs, the breasts, the stomach, the liver, the colon, the uterus, and more.<\/p>\n

My point is, stop looking for the quick fix. Often times, it is more trouble than it’s worth. Just do the work. Corsets are amazing, personally I love them, but I am tired of people who see me wearing one bothering me with discussions of weight and vanity. They’re just a piece of clothing to me, nothing more. I like my figure even before the corset goes on – that’s the important part.<\/p>\n
