Good Days

What is it that makes a really good day? Is it perhaps not going to work? No… because that would first require a job. Is it perhaps lounging in those old frumpy clothes that -if you were to ever be forced to wear them out- people would proclaim “you’re wearing that?” yet they still remain the most comfortable thing in your fashion-challenged closet? Maybe… but there’s really no need to get dressed if you’re not going anywhere. Is it perhaps catching up on some stuff you’ve been wanting to do but had other obligations? Maybe… but telling someone you played Second Life all day usually only brings about a shake of the head or roll of the eyes. Is it perhaps bringing your love food and drink without being asked because you see he is busy playing around in his own fantasy world? Maybe… but that’s standard around this house, on both ends. Is it perhaps helping out a friend while reading a good book? Maybe… two enjoyable activities in one does make the notion seemingly more prominent. Perhaps it is when the timid of your two kittens decides to wonder on over and promptly declare your lap as her bed for several hours? Definitely a plus.

But, alas, no. All these things, while each making a good day on their own and a great day all in one, do not compare to what makes a ‘really good’ day. So, what makes a really good day? That, my friends, is when you spend the day watching old cartoons and eating strawberry preserve on toast while letting the nostalgia convert you back into a child of a mere 6 years of age. Oh those old cartoons, those silly old Looney Tunes. In the case of this day, it was the year 1939. A year when Porky Pig was the king looney and cats sang while curious dogs got into mischief. We took trips around the globe, Detouring America and visiting the Land Of The Midnight Fun… Believe it or Else. Daffy became a father to four and Uncle Sam taught us the Pledge of Allegiance. A young bunny, that would later become the Bugs that all children love, made only his second and third appearance in 1939. No folks, Bugs Bunny as we know him would nigh appear in full form until July 1940.

The Sioux got their rain, Sniffles cured his cold, and Inki comes across the mynah bird for the very first time (or the ‘Minah’ bird in the Looney Tunes world). Oh those old classic animation tales… when you would sit in front of the TV for hours and rot your brain; sitting so still that your parents would make comments about weeds popping out of your ears… or was that just mine?
