Velvet Glove: an outwardly gentle or friendly manner used to disguise one’s firm or ruthless determination.

We all start our projects in life with the best of intentions; we always plan to finish them. We tell ourselves, “I can do this! And better than anyone else too!” Throughout recent years, I have been trying desperately to whittle down my plate to a small, manageable size. I figured out the big, important things and set aside the rest. Now, though, I see that holding on to the big things just because they are near and dear to me isn’t really helping the cause. The trouble is that the big things are just too big; they’re entire project paths all on their own: writing, genealogy…  Despite my love for all the things dear to me, I just do not have the time or energy to focus on each and every one of them. I need to take the velvet glove approach with myself and kill two of my darlings. Those two darlings would be my Mary Sue and Sailor Moon Sightings endeavors.

It’s hard for me to think about giving up on a once grand idea, but only all the time in the world would allow me to finish everything. My life has simply lead my down a different path. I am truly sorry to those who may have been waiting for some future update that now will never occur. I had the best of intentions, but now I need to have the best of intentions with the rest of my life. Know that I grieve with you.
