Magic vs. Magick

The use of the spelling ‘magick’ originated with Aleister Crowley and the Order of the Golden Dawn. They used the pseudo-archaic magick to mean ceremonial or high magic as opposed to practical magic. These days, however, most people use magick to mean real ‘magick’ practiced by real people as opposed to stage magic, slight of hand, or Hollywood CGI. Not everyone who practices ‘magick’ uses the spelling though, it’s just as common to see magic as it is magick. It’s all about preference and understanding the difference in whatever context you happen to find yourself in.
