That 70’s SMILE (Week 7 – 2015)

Inspired by friends, this week’s SMILE is all about the groovy 70’s! Enjoy!

Queen‘s We Will Rock You (lyrics) gets things started off right! This no nonsense song features no instruments but the human body until the very end, allowing Queen’s talent to really shine. Music isn’t about being the best drummer or a badass on the guitar, it’s about making music, and Queen did so with amazing proficiency!

Getting into the dancing grove, next we have the Bee Gees‘ Stayin’ Alive (lyrics). Is there really any other defining 70’s track and music video? Do I really have to say more?

Gloria Gaynor‘s I Will Survive (lyrics) keeps that “be strong” vibe going. This was the woman’s anthem of the 70’s and remains as a top choice to this day.

Moving to a different genre, the Sex Pistols‘ Anarchy in the UK (lyrics) was also a defining 70’s track – just for punk rock as opposed to the disco/dance tunes that were seen basically everywhere else. These guys, this song, truly spoke to a generation… even if it did just sound like “noise” to their parents ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lastly, but my personal favorite on this list, is John Lennon‘s Imagine (lyrics). This is a simple song, but it carries a powerful message – one that still rings just as true today as it did upon its release.

There are way more great songs from the 70’s, so be sure to list your favorites in a comment below! And, be sure to include any suggestions you might have for a SMILE theme ๐Ÿ™‚

How about a little 70’s rock? Nothing more classic than ‘Paradise by the Dashboard Light.’
