When SMILEs and Break-Ups Collide (Week 10 – 2015)

A friend of mine was not too pleased with last week’s happy songs and asked me to find some songs about killing your boyfriend and getting a puppy with free food for a year. OK, that last part might be a bit tricky, but I think I can manage the former. Enjoy!

Poe‘s Angry Johnny (lyrics) gets things started with a slow jam, but it also features an undeniably clear message. When you’re pissed at your ex, this might not be the best song to send them, but it will certainly make you feel better >ㅂ<

A song with a subtler message, so you don’t cause any unneeded “incidences with the police”, is All American Rejects‘ Gives You Hell (lyrics). If you really want to rub the point in that you’re better off, go for this. Plus, the music video is quite amusing.

Cee Lo Green‘s Fuck You (lyrics) is a classy song with teeth. It showcases that love isn’t always enough, and sometimes, you just have to really say what’s on your mine: man, fuck you.

Toni Braxton‘s He Wasn’t Many Enough for Me (lyrics) isn’t really an angry breakup song, but it can certainly boost your confidence about the whole situation – especially if the breakup was over another girl. No matter the situation, if it ain’t working and the other party ain’t trying, you deserve better.

How about a classic angry breakup song? Listen to Alanis Morissette‘s You Oughta Know (lyrics) for some nostalgic 90’s female anger. Just be sure you read the lyrics so you don’t sound silly talking about a cross-eyed bear ^.~

For those times when you’re just so done, try out Linkin Park‘s Don’t Stay (lyrics). This song is basically the equivalent of saying, “I’m fucking done, get out.”

Last, but not least, I discovered The Monkees‘ Gonna Buy Me A Dog (lyrics) to cover the dog part ^^ After all the anger and hurt feelings, sometimes you just need a silly song about a dog hehe

What angry breakup songs make you feel better? Be sure to leave them in a comment, and be sure to include any SMILE suggestions you might have! ^^
