If You See a Dragon SMILE… Run. (Week 12 – 2015)

My friend, Josh, came to town for a visit, so I asked him for a topic for today’s SMILE. Chris answered for him with ‘dragons’ 😛 I immediately thought of G Dragon, Imagine Dragons, DragonForce, etc – but those are artists/groups and don’t really count for this. The trouble is, I couldn’t actually think of any songs specifically about dragons, and when I went looking, I couldn’t really find any – sure, there were songs about questing to kill dragons and using ‘dragon’ as a metaphor, but that wasn’t what I was looking for. In the end, instrumental proved to be the best for this topic. Enjoy!

Adrian von Ziegler‘s Nidhöggr (instrumental) starts things off with a very specific dragon – Nidhöggr is the dragon who gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. Adrian is actually one of my favorite composers, and this track is no exception! I highly recommend checking out his other work (all of which can be found on his YouTube channel).

BrunuhVille‘s Dance with Dragons (instrumental) is the second instrumental track on this list. BrunuhVille is a new composer to me, which I only found while doing research for this SMILE, but I definitely plan to look into more of his work in the future.

The last instrumental song for this week is Armory‘s Forged in Dragon Flames (instrumental). This one is definitely heavier and more metal based. Given the title, one can’t be sure it’s “really” about dragons, but honestly, who can say what an instrumental song is really about 😛 In the end, it’s about how it makes you feel, and I felt that this song works well for this week’s topic.

And, lastly, what music post about dragons would be complete without Peter, Paul & Mary‘s Puff The Magic Dragon (lyrics)!? If you didn’t see this coming, you don’t know me very well ^^

Do you know any songs about dragons? Leave them in the comments below, and be sure to include any suggestions you may have for an upcoming SMILE! ^^
