I did a SMILE before on songs dealing with breakups, but they were all more or less negative. So, this time, I want to focus on the positive! Enjoy!
First up is Sweet California‘s Comprende It’s Over (lyrics). This Spanish girl group, although this song is in English, makes it very clear the relationship is finished. This song wouldn’t be out of place on my stalkers list either. (Sorry the info link is in Spanish, it’s the best I could find!)
Ailee‘s Don’t Touch Me (lyrics)(Korean) is next. All you need to know about Ailee is that she is basically Korea’s version of Beyoncé. In this song, she is beyond done with her ex, telling him “that’s enough now, stop before I scream.”
Rilo Kiley‘s Breakin’ Up (lyrics) might be a bit confusing given the continual asking of “am I breaking up?”, but following that with “oh, it’s good to be free” definitely makes it clear that she’s happy the answer was yes.
Lastly for this week, here’s Pink‘s So What (lyrics). The amusing thing about this song is that it was written about the complications in her marriage, but things worked out so her husband actually appears in the music video. While the song might be about saying “so what” to breaking up, I’m glad these two could work out their differences.
When you’re happy about a break up, what songs do you listen to? Let me know in a comment below, and be sure to include any suggestions you may have for future SMILEs!
