This week’s prompt for the 50 Shades of Sexy Second Life photo challenge was ‘Sexual Healing’ which many take to refer to healing by means of having sex. I, however, decided to take a different approach and instead focused on the idea of healing the sexual self. Sex has become such a part of our lives that many don’t even know how to separate sexuality/attraction from anything and everything else. I recently watched a video on youtube that showed a young girl sharing an inspiring message about how she overcame being suicidal. It made me sad that all the comments about the video started with “you’re beautiful!” or “she’s really cute.” As if, had she been “ugly”, no one would have found the message inspirational…

I know the idea of sexual abstinence has been given a bad reputation in our current overly sexed-up society -mostly do to it’s relationship with over zealous God-fearing Christians-, however it does have it’s benefits. Taking a step back and allowing yourself to catch your breath always does. So take a moment and reevaluate the role your sexual self plays in your life. And remember that abstinence isn’t just about not having sex.
